About this template

U.S. employers must complete a Form I-9 for every person they hire, to verify their identity and authorization to work. The employee completes Section 1 no later than their first day of work. The employer completes Section 2 within three business days after that, once they’ve examined the employee’s documents.

Here, it goes to your new hire first, then to you: add yourself as the second signer. Numbers like a Social Security or A-Number are private fields: they’re in the signed form but hidden on the certificate of completion.

DHS has rules for electronic Forms I-9, including how they’re signed and kept (8 CFR 274a.2). Check that your process meets them, or use a paper form, and keep each Form I-9 for as long as the law requires. Supplements A and B are included for preparers and for reverification and rehires.

This is USCIS’s official form. Its pages are as published; Dokkiman’s fields take the place of its fill-in boxes. Check USCIS’s website for the latest version and instructions.
